An Altus woman was transported by EMS personnel to Jackson County Memorial Hospital, and later flown to an OKC hospital, with severe injuries after she was attacked by several dogs.
According to reports from Altus Police, the victim and her friend said they went to a residence at 919 North Howse Street, at around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, to ask the homeowner about purchasing a trailer that was parked at that residence. The two women entered the property, which is surrounded by a chain link fence.
After making contact with a resident at the door, the dogs appeared and met the two at or near the front porch. The friend of the victim was invited into the house while the victim remained on the front porch.
Police were told that three of the six dogs, all medium to large size, then attacked the victim leaving severe lacerations and puncture wounds to her neck, chest, arms, legs and her back.
All six dogs were taken to the Altus animal control center and the three that were involved in the attack have been euthanized, at the request of the owner. The other three dogs will be held for the mandatory 10 days. The owner of the dogs has been cited for to many dogs on the premises and failure to provide rabies vaccination.
