New Altus Assistant City Manger Greg Buckley was recently elected to the City Management Association of Oklahoma (CMAO) Board of Directors for 2014-15. Buckley is a past-president for CMAO. After an Altus City Council executive session on Thursday, Buckley was appointed the Assistant City Manger here in open session. The Council also voted to solicit a recruitment agency to contract with the City for the purpose of recruiting a City Manager. Buckley will serve as Acting City Manager effective Aug. 16, until a new City Manager is hired.
Craig Stephenson, Ponca City City Manager, was elected president of the CMAO Board of Directors at the semi-annual business meeting during the 2014 Summer Conference in Guthrie on July 16-18.
Stephenson was one of four officers elected to the board as provided in the CMAO by-laws. The officers will serve a one-year term.
“As the incoming President of the City Management Association of Oklahoma (CMAO) I look forward to working with both new and continuing members of the CMAO Board in promoting the profession of City Management in Oklahoma,” said Stephenson.
“CMAO has implemented several initiatives the last several years to enhance professionalism in the state by providing educational opportunities to the CMAO membership, as well as informational opportunities to the residents of our communities about the importance and value of a professionally managed municipality.”
Other officers elected to the board were: Doug Haines, Woodward Assistant City Manager, Vice President; Brian McDougal, Shawnee City Manager, Secretary/Treasurer. Other members elected to serve on the board include: Joan Riley, Assistant City Manager in Enid, who was elected as the Assistant City Manager Representative on the Board.
Buckley has served in municipal government for over 23 years in both small and large communities from Oklahoma, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. He was Assistant City Manager in Lawton for 5 years and most recently was the City Manager for Muskogee for 5 years. Buckley has his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Public Administration.
