The year was 1964. The Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, and southwestern Oklahoma’s own Roger Miller were tearing up the country charts. The Ford Mustang was introduced for the first time. Lyndon Johnson defeated Barry Goldwater in the Presidential Election. Yes, a lot happened in 1964. August 2nd, 1964 was also a very important day, as a new church met for the first time on the north side of Altus. That church is now known as Highland Heights United Methodist Church.

Many people have worshiped at Highland Heights United Methodist Church during these fifty years. HHUMC has held many baptisms, weddings, and celebrations of life for so many brothers and sisters. Many tears and great laughter have been shared together. Birthdays, anniversaries, and many other events have been celebrated by the HHUMC family.
