Both Greer and Jackson County Extension Offices are offering pre-season wheat meetings on Aug. 12. Both meetings will include the same topics covering wheat seed characterisitcs and varieties, fertility, seed treatment and herbicide options, and projected wheat budgets for the 2014/2015 production year. Speakers will include Dr. Mark Gregory, SW District Area Agronomy Specialist, Mr. Jason Pace, SW District Area Agriculture Economist, Mr. Gary Strickland, Jackson and Greer County’s Agriculture Extension Educator and Southwest Research and Extension Center (SWREC) Dryland Cropping Systems Specialist. The Greer County meeting will be held at the Greer County Fair Grounds in Mangum located one mile west of highway 283/34 and Taft intersection and go from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Jackson County meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and conclude by 7:30 p.m. at the Jackson County Extension Office located on the north side of the WOSC campus. Free meals will be sponsored at each meeting by the Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association. Pre-registration is requested, but not required, by Monday, 12 Noon, to assist with meal counts. These should be informative meetings for area agriculture producers. Oklahoma Irrigation Conference


This conference is set for Aug. 19 at the Caddo-Kiowa Technology Center, Building 400 in Fort Cobb. The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. and concludes by 4 p.m. Topics will include Mesonet – ET and Irrigation Scheduling, NRCS Irrigation Programs, Common Mistakes when Installing a Pivot System, Using Moisture Sensors to Schedule your Irrigation, OWRB 50 Year Water Plan and how it relates to Farm Irrigation, Drip Irrigation, Water Quality Research, Cell Phone Apps for running your Pivot, and Water Issues for Cotton Producers. This should be an informative meeting for area agriculture producers who utilize irrigation in their production systems. Registration information can be picked up at the Jackson County Extension Office or go to our web-site at oces.okstate.edu/Jackson, select upcoming meeting fliers and print a registration sheet off.
