Are you planning one last campout for the Labor Day Holiday? A lot of folks do choose to have their final camping trip of the season at Quartz Mountain Nature Park. Remember, camping is on a first come first serve basis (no reservations) so bring your trailer out early. The Wednesday before the holiday (Aug. 27) if you are not too fussy on which site you get. If you have a specific site you want to try for, you should probably have come out on Monday (25th). If you are tent camping you do not need to come out quite so early. Wednesday for a specific area is probably early enough.

We are NOT in a burn Ban so campfires are permitted. It has been awhile since we have had rain and the vegetation is getting very dry. Please keep a very close watch on your campfire and have at least 5 gallons of water standing by-just as a safety precaution.

Checking the Fire Ban status, it was a pleasant surprise to see not a single county had a Fire Ban for the Labor Day Holiday. It has been quite a few years since this last occurred.

With Labor Day comes September and the nights are cooling off. The 30 day precipitation forecast from NOAA has western Oklahoma slightly above average. The 90 day forecast looks much more favorable for above average rain. Hopefully, this comes to pass and Lake Altus-Lugert can start refilling. It lacks over 30 feet from being full.

Have a safe and Happy Labor Day Holiday!
