A Edwardsville man was charged Monday in Madison County Circuit Court with a felony charge of harassment by electronic communications, Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz said in a press release.

The man is identified as Eugene R. Weatherly, 18, of the 4000 block of Bohm School Road.

On Saturday, sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in Edwardsville in regard to a person reporting they received threatening electronic messages from Weatherly, police said.

Deputies conducted an investigation which resulted in the seizure of evidence related to the conveyed threats. Probable cause was developed to arrest Weatherly for the charge of harassment by electronic communications. Weatherly was later located at his home and arrested without incident.

Weatherly was held in the Madison County Jail pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The felony warrant and information was signed by the Honorable Judge Keith Jensen, who set bond at $25,000.
