The Altus High Bulldogs opened their home wrestling season here last night and walked away with an easy 54-22 victory over the Vernon Lions.


Altus won 10 of 14 matches on the night and three by falls.


Shannon Ybarra (170), Taven Birdow (195) and Keegan Pride (285) all won by pins.


The most competitive match of the evening came in 160 pound bout where Altus’ Kameron Canchola wrestled Juan Trejo. Canchola scored on an escape with 18 seconds left to win the match 5-4.


In other matches Dan Paet (113) gave Altus a win with a technical fall (15-0) over Deangelo Sparkman while Jamie Craig (120) gave the Bulldogs another easy victory, a 11-0 decision over Daniel Rodriguez.


Gage Gomez (106), Derek Bumgarner, Michael Abuen and Austin Baldwin all won by forfeits.


Bulldog notes: The Bulldogs originally was supposed to have wrestled Amarillo Palo Duro but they cancelled. They were replaced by Vernon.


Altus will now take a break for the Christmas holidays. Next action will be at the Allen, Texas Tournament on Jan. 3-4.
