The Altus Junior High 8th grade girls basketball team used a big third quarter to defeat the Lawton Tomlinson Lady Wolves 19-11 on Thursday night.


Using a quick 2-3 Zone, the Lady Dawgs shut down the Lady Wolves in the first quarter but Altus just couldn’t find their shooting touch and the Altus trailed going into the second quarter 4-3.


Altus was able to outscore Tomlinson 6-4 in the second frame to take a slim 9-8 lead into the half.


Altus was able to pull away from Tomlinson in the third quarter. Kennedy Berry scored five of the points in the quarter to help the Lady Dawgs pull out to a 16-9 lead heading into the final frame.


Altus was able to outscore the Lady Wolves 4-2 in the final quarter to take the victory.


The Altus defense held Tomlinson to just two buckets the entire game. Angela Edwards led Altus with 8 points with Berry added 5.


“This was a great team win for our girls,” said Coach Robert Garrison, “there was a lot of unselfish plays by these girls tonight and that is what helped us win.”


Next action for the Lady Dawgs (7-6) will be on Monday when they travel to Lawton Mac for a tough contest.
