The Altus Junior High 7th grade girls basketball team continued their winning ways on Thursday night defeating Lawton Central in a hard fought 25-22 come from behind win.

The victory was their fourth in a row.

Altus opened the game fast and held a 9-8 lead going into the second frame. The Lady Dawgs pulled away a little in the second frame by outscoring the Lady Cougars 10-5 to build a 19-13 lead heading into the second half.

The pesky Lady Cougars wouldn’t go away though as they outscored Altus 7-3 in the third quarter. Altus went into the final frame up 22-20.

The game got exciting in the fourth quarter. Central scored to tie it up and then both teams went dry. Altus was able to get a free throw with less than a minute remaining to put the score 23-22.

Central missed two shots and Altus rebounded and the Lady Dawgs’ Margurite McGill was able to put in a shot with 10 seconds left to secure the win.

McGill led Altus with 13 points while Jordan Benway added 9.

The victory evened the season ledger for the Lady Dawgs at 7-7.

The Lady Dawgs will enter the Cache Tournament on Wednesday where they will play host Cache. The Lady Dawgs will wrap their season on Feb. 10 when they travel to Clinton.

ALTUS – Benway 3-3-9, Leyja 1-1-3, McGill 4-5-13. Totals: 8-9-25.
