CACHE - Facing some of the top schools on this side of the state, the Altus High School Lady Bulldog Track and Field team did an outstanding job. Plainview (Class 4A’s defending State Champion) took top honors, followed by Lawton Ike, Altus, Lawton High and Cache in the 20 team field.
Highlighting the day for the Lady Bulldogs was Ashely Hughes who took second in the 100 Hurdles (15.76) with her personal best, and Hughes took second in the 300 Hurdles (47.60). Kiandra Knight, running the 200 Dash for the first time this year, also took second with a 26.61 (second best in Class 5A this year).
The 1600 Relay team of Zetta McCaskill, Hughes, Jimmie Dollins and Bree Barker finished third while the 3200 Relay team of McCaskill, Barker, Julia Pack and Lexi Herron also took third. Mariah Watson took third in the Long Jump.
McCaskill took 4th in the 400 Dash while the 800 Relay also placed fourth. That team consisted of Watson, Tyara Jones, Hughes and Knight.
Finishing in sixth for the Lady Bulldogs were Dollins in the 100 Hurdles, Pack in the 3200 Run and Jones in the Long Jump.
“We had a good day today,” said coach Robert Garrison, “the competition we faced today was fierce and most of our girls competed well.”
“Our times in the hurdles were outstanding and Knight posted a great time in the 200,” added Garrison.
“Whenever you run against Plainview, the distance events are fun to watch, and although she didn’t place, Pack ran a 5.59 mile and she knocked 29 seconds off her two mile time,” said Garrison.
The Lady Bulldogs will train hard this week as they prepare for the tough part of their schedule. They will travel to Chickasha on April 15 and to the University of Oklahoma on April 18. They will then enter the Western Conference Meet on April 22.
“We have three big meets right in a row and no down time, so the girls know that it is getting close to crunch time and they are prepared to ramp up the workouts,” added Garrison.
