The Altus baseball team suffered two 8-1 losses in a Class 5A regional tournament this week at Carl Albert in Midwest City.

Between those setbacks, though, was a 15-5 victory against Oklahoma City Southeast in an elimation game. McCrae Stephens hit five singles and drove in six runs, Tito Jones was 4-for-5 with two RBI, and Taven Birdow hit a three-run homer.

Winning pitcher Sean Torres, promoted from the junior varsity for the postseason, allowed two earned runs and struck out five.

“Sean did an outstanding job in his first varsity start,” Altus coach Dusty Davis said. “In the second game with Piedmont, we hit the ball well but several times right at somebody.”

The Bulldogs finished their season 17-20.

As expected, top-ranked Carl Albert dominated the tournament and advanced to the state tournament.
