For the third consecutive year, the Navajo “Wild” 10-and-under fast pitch softball team will play in the OK Kids State Tournament. The Wild will enter undefeated with a 22-0 record for the season. This is the fifth straight year the team has finished a regular season undefeated.
The Wild amassed staggering numbers this year while dominating the 18-team Elk City League. Scoring 226 runs, Navajo allowed their opponents only 18 runs for the entire season. The team batting average of .564 is led by Gracie Brooks hitting at an .814 clip. Trinity Rohrer and Haven Gilbert are both hitting over .600 for the year. The Wild hit 51 home runs led by Rohrer’s’ 14.
The pitching staff of Trinity Rohrer, Haven Gilbert, Abby Bates and Danielle Cook combined for 15 shutouts, 9 no-hitters while allowing only 18 hits. Gilbert finished with an 11-0 record, striking out 84 batters. Rohrer was 10-0 and did not allow an earned run until the final game of the season.
The Wild was stellar on defense all season anchored by the steady second-base play of Addison Warren and outfielders Jamie Pruitt, Keira Richardson, Jaycee Smith, Mallory Orick, Dani Davis and Kaydence Decker.
The Navajo Wild are coached by Terry Gilbert, Greg Cook and Angie Smith. The State Tournament is held at Weatherford June 26-29.
