Braden Box, Navajo High School Senior, participated in the Dominican High School Baseball Camp in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. The camp selects players from the U.S.A. and Canada from recommendations from high school and college coaches, scouts, or showcase participation.
The selected team consisted of 15 players. Upon arrival to the Dominican Republic, the team practiced and participated in the same development drills done by Dominican baseball players. Daily games were played against Dominican teams.
Although in a very different environment, the team found that the game of baseball was the common tool they could use working across cutures. In addition to baseball, there was tme to enjoy the beach and island tours that included a trip to Santa Domingo and Colonial Zone. They also visited the Major League baseball training complex’s located in the Domincan.
Braden is now completing his summer baseball schedule with the Navajo High School Team/Coach Weston Winters and the Lawton Shockers/Coaches White and Hopkins. Braden is looking forward to the Fall 2014 High School Baseball season in hopes the team will qualify for the State Tournament as they did in the spring.
