The Avengers, a local co-ed softball team, has won the Class E state championship and will try to win the national championship in St. Joseph, M0. on August 23-24.

Put together by team managers Scott Gordon and Kriston Shumaker, the Avengers decided to play a full shedule this summer after playing together in a few tournaments last summer. With tournament wins at Altus, Snyder, Quanah and Vernon, Texas, the team had enough confidence to enter the district tournament at Ft. Sill. The third place finish there qualified them for the (Class E) OASA State Tournament in Enid on Aug. 9. Coach Kevin Davenport led his squad to 5 run-rule victories. One of which was in the championship game.
