The Altus Junior High 7th grade football team opened their season in on Tuesday by crushing the Lawton Eisenhower Vikings 36-0.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Dawgs quickly got on the board in the second period as quarterback Dylan McGill snuck the ball into the endzone from a yard away. Quaylan Johnson ran in the conversion and the Dawgs led 8-0.
Altus went to the air to score on their next drive as McGill connected with fullback Hunter Webb on a 15 yard swing pass. Mysean Wells ran in the conversion and Altus led 16-0 with three minutes to go in the half.
After defensive tackle Deondre Martinez recovered a fumble, the Altus offense went down and scored again. McGill again connected with Webb for a 6 yard touchdown pass. Wells ran in the conversion and Altus led 24-0 at the half.
Altus added two touchdowns in the second half. The first was in the third quarter as McGill scored on a 5 yard run. The conversion failed and Altus went into the final frame up 30-0.
Wells scored on a 14 yard run in the fourth quarter to end the scoring with Altus up 36-0.
Webb led all rushers with 38 yards on four carries while Wells added 25 yards on two carries. The Altus defense did an outstanding job in their first contest as well, only allowing one first down in the first half and two in the second half. Top defensive standouts for Altus were Martinez, Cabe Dickerson, Rece Gribble and Davyon Ford. Next action for the Dawgs will be next Tuesday when they host the Elk City Elks.
