Wanda J. Baker, age 96, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born October 31, 1927 in Hobart, OK to Joe and Pearl (Bates) Phipps and grew up near Mountain View, OK and graduated from Sedan schools. Wanda was the second of 7 children and has always been known as ‘Sis’ to her siblings and later to her numerous nieces and nephews. She worked in Hobart, OK as a county tax collector after high school and there met the love of her life, Stanley M. Baker. They married December 10, 1946 and raised their family in Altus, OK. She was a homemaker and when her children were grown she volunteered at Jackson County Hospital and provided private sitting for patients. Stanley and Wanda moved to Mustang, OK in 1992 where they enjoyed being closer to family and seeing their greatgrandchildren born and grow up. Wanda was a great cook, enjoyed gardening, loved traveling with family, and was active in water aerobics and line dancing. She loved country music, especially the classics, and she was an avid sports fan with OU football, basketball, and softball, as well as OKC Thunder basketball being her favorites. She kept up with news and politics and respected anyone that would ‘talk politics’ with her. She was patriotic, loved America, and she enjoyed voting and working polling stations during elections. It is in loving memory that we celebrate the full life she lived and the life she is embarking on with our Lord. Wanda, ‘Sis’, Mama, Mema will be forever missed by all those who knew her.
