I’d like to take a moment this week to commend the Altus Police Department for their efficient work this week.
We had a string of shootings over the weekend that rocked our community. I couldn’t believe what I heard Monday morning, and I couldn’t imagine what it must have been like for those residents involved.
This was not the Altus I grew up in. How long would this continue? How many more people would be caught in the crossfire?
Our men and women in blue answered that question very quickly.
That stood up and proved to those in our community that seek to carry out this violence that it would not be tolerated—not for one second.
So, I say “thank you” to the men and women of the Altus Police Department and Police Chief Tim Murphy. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the other agencies and law enforcement officers involved including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the United States Marshalls Fugitive Task Force.
This week showed us the truth that you have been and are always willing to put yourselves into harm’s way to ensure this community’s safety. For that, we are extremely grateful and proud to hold you up high as our own.
I would also to thank Chief Murphy for his assistance in helping us disseminate the information about these events to the community as quickly as possible.
You all exemplify the Altus spirit we so often talk about.
