Melvin E. Harvick, 80, of Altus, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at Plantation Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kincannon Funeral Home with Tom Bailey and Mark Haught officiating. Burial will follow services at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

He was born Dec. 4, 1926, in Eldorado to Walter and Ruby (Rambo) Harvick. He graduated from Eldorado High School in 1945. He entered the U.S. Air Force on Aug. 2, 1950, and was honorably discharged in 1954. He married LeMoyne Braker in Quanah, Texas, on Nov. 4, 1961. He was a self employed carpenter and built many homes in Eldorado and Jackson County. He and his wife LeMoyne served as class parents at Eldorado School when their children were in school. He was a member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. He devoted most of his time to his family and his home building trade.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife LeMoyne in October of 1995; five brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by two sons, Darren Harvick and wife Resa of Altus; Brad Harvick and wife Andrea of Nowata; six grandchildren, Chase, Rachel, Trent, Madison, Corey and Marissa; two sisters, Lucy Crelia of Altus, Lillie Pearl Stricklin and husband Jake of Tullahoma, Tenn.; and many friends.
