The board approved the installation of six masonry screen walls, including steel gates and painting at AHS. This is to hide and protect the air conditioning units in the remodeling.
The board weighed Mr. Drury’s news that the fees for the district drug dog were being doubled, from $200 to $400 per month. The K-9 Handling Fee for the 2012-13 School Year would total $4,800 per year. This dog is new to the district and has just been training with its handler for service beginning this week. The board approved evaluating the effectiveness of the drug dog after the first semester. Finances were a consideration and whether or not the dog’s service would rather duplicate some of the deterrence to drug use, since the district just started its drug testing. Not all students are covered by the testing and the dog is used at events where others may possess drugs, board members said. Mr. Drury said records will be kept to inform the board of the dog’s service to the district and the matter will be placed on the December agenda.
The board approved Col. Griner as the New Ex-Officio Board Member representing Altus Air Force Base.
There was no new business and the board meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
