Oren and Geri have been active church members all their adult life; raising their children in the Cold Springs Friends Church and then becoming members of the Roosevelt First Baptist Church upon completion of the Tom Steed Lake. At both churches, Oren served as a trustee, deacon, Sunday school superintendent, numerous church committees and as a Sunday school teacher for over 35 years. Oren also served as the piano player when needed and could always be seen in the choir. He was a noted bass singer and, along with Geri, sang at many functions and funerals.
Oren served 15 years on the Roosevelt School Board and board of directors on the Con. 8 Gin. The Badens were selected as the 1960 Kiowa County Farm Family of the Year and competed at the state level.
