OKLAHOMA CITY—Results from the “2012 Oklahoma Voter’s Guide for the Well-Informed Voter of Faith,” a new issues-based survey for candidates produced by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma (BGCO), are now available online at www.bgco.org/vote.

The BGCO’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Committee has published the answers from congressional and legislative candidates to a 25-question survey distributed to all candidates in Oklahoma . The survey results provide a revealing look into the current and potential makeup of opinion within Oklahoma policy makers.

Highlights of the survey results include:

• On the question of the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman, only one candidate said marriage is not limited to one man and one woman.

• On the question of attitude toward the Oklahoma state lottery, 75 percent of candidates oppose it.

• On the question of support for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (known as “Obamacare”), 87.5 percent of the candidates oppose it.

• Of those that responded to the “Oklahoma Voter’s Guide for the Well-Informed Voter of Faith,” 75 percent were Republican, 20 percent were Democrat and 5 percent were Independent.

“We commend all of the candidates who took part in our nonpartisan, issue-based survey,” said Brian Hobbs, communications director for the BGCO.

“It takes bravery to put your policy positions on the line on these moral and ethical issues.”
