Bulldogs 3rd, Lady Bulldogs 4th

The Altus High School Swim Teams made a good showing at the annual Joe Stocker Invitational Saturday at the OCCC Swim complex.

Edmond North girls dominated the competition with 478 points, followed by Edmond Memorial with 276.50

points, next Mustang had 209 points, and the Lady Bulldogs’ 195 points earned them 4th. The Bulldogs followed Edmond Memorial (375.50) and Edmond North (374.50) to earn 3rd place with 329 points.

The boys’ 200 Medley Relay placed 4th with a State time of 1:53.07. Relay members were Mathew Aguilar, Matt Bowen, Matthew Cole, and Daniel Brown. Paul

Davis placed 2nd with a personal best time of 2:09.92 in the 200 IM. He also had a personal best time in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:07.75. Garrett Thompson had two personal best times for 3rd in the 100 freestyle (52:14) and 4th in the 50 freestyle (23:55). Thompson, Aguilar, Bowen, and Davis placed 2nd in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a personal best time of 1:37.76. Thompson, Daniel Brown, Davis, and Bowen finished the meet with a 3:33.53 in the 400 Freestyle Relay, which was also a personal best time.

Other State qualifiers were Jacob Oden in the 100 butterfly, Brown in the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle, and Aguilar in the 100 back. Other point scorers were Nick Turner, Tanner Cole, Matthew Cole, Brandon Lundmark, Walker Sacco, Tyler Forster Menchaca, and Jaret Nassaney.

Chasity Cooper continued to lead the Lady Bulldogs. She qualified two events with State times. She swam the 100 butterfly in 1:10.89, and the 100 Backstroke in 1:08.80. She helped Bailey Dickson, Mariah Patterson, and Cassidy Pearl place 4th in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a personal best and a State time of 1:58.84. Cooper, Pearl, Taylor McEntire, and Crystal Cooper scored a 4th place finish and a personal best time of 4:29.60 in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Several other Lady Bulldogs helped score team points. They were Brittany Merriott, Ashleigh Downs, Tera Downs, Stacey Louks, and Stacey Lockman.

“Almost all swimmers turned personal best times, so that was great,” said Coach Linda Wiginton. “Most of our practices are going well, so the swimmers need to keep working hard to improve and drop these times. Michael Shive, my assistant coach, and myself keep switching the swimmers’ events trying to get the perfect combination for the State meet. We still need to get more swimmers qualified in individual events to be competitive at the State Championships.”
