It was a long night for the Altus High Bulldogs on both sides of the ball in their game with the Ardmore Tigers on Friday. When it was all over the Tigers came away with a 42-21 victory ending the Bulldogs playoff hopes.

It was pretty simple why Altus lost. The Bulldogs couldn’t sustain any offensive consistency and they could not stop Ardmore’s ground attack.

The Tigers rolled to 418 rushing yards and it was an option play the hosts ran that was a thorn in the Bulldogs side the entire evening.

Freshman quarterback Clay Atwood rushed 23 times for 171 yards and three touchdowns. Atwood scored on runs 16, one and 38 yards. Wingback Jamarcus Mills also had a big night for the Tigers reeling off 101 yards on 11 carries with two TDs.

The Tigers had problems handling the ball putting it on the ground seven times but the Bulldogs could come up with only one fumble recovery.

If your looking for a bright spot for Altus it came in the form of senior linebacker Keilan Torres and senior running back Diquon Woodhouse.

Torres came up with two turnovers, one on an interception and the other on a fumble recovery in which he returned 36 yards for a touchdown.

Woodhouse rushed 23 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns. That first score came from the wildcat formation. It covered on a 43 yard run and at the time the Bulldogs trailed only 14-7 in the first quarter. Woodhouse also added a 10 yard TD scamper which came late in the game.

Leading 28-14 at halftime, the Tigers scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to break the game open.

Ardmore dominated ball possession. The Tigers had 66 snaps to the Bulldogs 38 offensive plays.

The Bulldogs, 2-7 on the season will close out their season Friday when they host Oklahoma City Capitol Hill.
