Christmas parade set for Dec. 6

Registrations are being accepted for the 29th Annual Altus Christmas Parade which will step off from Western Oklahoma State College at 3:00 p.m. sharp on Sunday, December 6, 2009. There is no charge to be in the parade but early registration is a must. Deadline for entries is Monday, November 30, 2009. Call the Altus Chamber of Commerce if you need entry forms and rules and regulations

The parade will begin at Western Oklahoma State College (2801 N. Main) proceed south on North Main to Commerce Street. The parade entries will then disperse as follows: Odd # entries will go West on Commerce St. to various parking lots. Even # entries will go East on Commerce St. to parking lots around City Hall. All trucks will go south to Broadway St.

Our parade theme is “Christmas at Grandma’s”. Debbie Davis is the Chairman of the Christmas Parade Action Group. The parade is a community project with the Altus Chamber of Commerce, City of Altus, WOSC and Altus Air Force Base representatives providing many needed services. The reviewing stand will be placed in front of the First Baptist Church on N. Main Street. Bob and Georgia Beers are the parade marshals for 2009. Bob and Georgia are being recognized for their community service.

Mark Dodson , Chairman of the Board of the Altus Chamber of Commerce, Colonel Jon T. Thomas , Commander 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus AFB and Mayor T.L. Gramling and their families will be on the reviewing stand. Eddie and Joan Wilcoxen with KWHW Radio will serve as master of ceremonies.

Prizes will be awarded to Float entries in 5 categories.

Grand Marshall $300

First Place – School and Youth $200

First Place – Church $200

First Place – Civic & Commercial $200

First Place – Altus Air Force Base $200

A new category of Best Antique Wagon has been established. The best wagon will be presented with a $100 prize. Remember all entries including the wagons have to be decorated to be in the parade.

Happy Holidays from all the merchants and businesses who underwrite the cost of the parade! In case of inclement weather the parade will be postponed until Sunday, December 13, 2009.
