Doris Genelle Ellis, 79, of Granite, passed away in Altus on Aug. 29, 2012.

Funeral service will be held at the People’s Cooperative Funeral Home Chapel in Lone Wolf on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David Hogg officiating. Burial will be at the Rock Cemetery in Granite under the direction of People’s Cooperative Funeral Home. Doris Genelle Ellis was born ton Alva Jack and Gertie Eva (Henderson) Hurt in Hobart on July 14, 1933.

Doris grew up in and graduated High School in Granite in 1951. She first married George Willis Roberson in 1954 and they made their home in California while he was in the Navy. They moved back to Granite in 1976. She later married Harry Ray Ellis on Nov. 16, 1979, in Wellington, Texas. He passed away on March 14, 2012. She was a homemaker who loved jigsaw puzzles, embroidery, sewing and was an avid OU fan. She made tooth pillows that she handed out to kindergarteners for their lost teeth. She was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry Ellis; daughter, Debra Jean Roberson; a brother, Alva Joe Hurt; and three sisters, Marie Thorton, Betty Brooks and Jean Hurt.

Survivors include a son, Carl “Bud” Roberson and wife Donna who was a special caretaker for Doris of Altus; two daughters, Terri Roberson of Altus, and Jerri Stricker of Granite; two brothers, Donald Wayne Hurt and wife Linda of Chandler, and Robert Doyle Hurt of Granite; two sisters, Joan Walton of Mangum and Yvonne Stevens of Springfield, Mo.; five grandchildren, Amanda Snodgrass, Carl Roberson, Robin Roberson, Kelli Lee and Lucas Stricker; and many other relatives and friends.
