Mary Ruby Elizabeth Flippin was born to Oscar and Minnie (Ferguson) Barkley in Carnegie on Aug. 6, 1911, and departed this life in Weatherford on Oct. 21, 2012 at the age of 101 years.
She married her favorite cowboy, Andrew Jackson Flippin in November 1932 at the Baptist parsonage officiated by Pastor Lamb of Mountain View. Ruby was an outdoor girl who loved working in the fields and in her garden. Later in her life she had a daycare in her home for many years. She never had any children of her own, but claimed each child she came in contact with as her own and kept in touch with them the best she could. She was a favorite of her many nieces and nephews as well as the great nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed sewing and knitting. She loved her Church and community work to include the Mountain View Fair. She planned her own funeral with the preacher and “the Stephens kids” singing. For the last six years she spent at Corn Heritage Village where she had lots of love for her caretakers and they returned the love.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and four brothers, Homer, Hershel, Ray and Orville Barkley; and two sisters, Madge Black and Alma Adkisson.
Survivors include a host of relatives and friends.
