Reece Henry, son of Dr. and Mrs. Rick Henry of Altus, took second place for the 8th grade in the state American History contest sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Henry represented the Altus Anne Lee chapter of the DAR. The award was announced by Cynthia Reed, state DAR chair, Feb.16.
Henry will receive the award at the state conference scheduled for the end of April. His essay was on Nancy (Nanye’hi) Ward, a Cherokee woman who fought bravely in the Battle of Taliwa and sought equality between colonists and Native Americans throughout her entire life.
“We are extremely proud of Reece’s accomplishment at the state level. We were sure that his essay would do well at the state level and we are looking forward to the state conference in April when he will be honored and presented his certificate,” said Mary Holsey, the Altus Chapter Regent.
