Luis G. Hernandez, 93, of Altus, passed away on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at his home.

A rosary was held Monday at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.The Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Sundar officiating. Burial followed in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Luis G. Hernandez was born in Marathon, Texas, on June 21, 1917. He married Concepcion Leyva in Alpine, Texas, in 1940. She preceded him in death in 1954. He married Maria Berrera, who preceded him in death on March 25, 2006. He was a Supply Supervisor in Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base, retiring in 1982 after 32 years of service. Luis was a member of the Knights of Columbus, receiving the honor of Oklahoma Knight of the Year in 1989. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He was named honorary Mayor for the City of Altus when James Starr was Mayor. He enjoyed working in the yard and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Conception and Maria; a sister, Julia; a brother, Juan; a grandson, Joey Hernandez; and a son-in-law, Ben Hernandez.

He is survive by two daughters, Rebecca H. Hernandez of Altus, and Gilda Lloyd and husband Michael of San Antonio, Texas; one son, Luis Hernandez Jr. of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Jorge and Samantha Hernandez, Dan Hernandez, David Hernandez, Robert Lloyd, Jennifer Lloyd-Bennett, Anthony Hernandez, Kristine Hernandez; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Haley Hernandez, Sara Marie Guerra; great-great-grandchildren, Anthony Jr. and Mitchell Hernandez; and many friends.
