Jackson County’s annual Winter Ag Conference to be held Feb. 12

On Tuesday Feb. 12 the Southwest Technology Center and the Jackson County OSU Extension Office will offer their Annual Winter Ag Conference. The conference will begin at 8 a.m. with registration and go to 4:30 p.m. The conference is broken up into the following sessions so producers can pick and choose what they would like to attend or attend the whole day.

Session 1 (8:30 – 11:45 a.m.) will address “Row Crop Production and Management Topics” related to cotton, grain sorghum, forage sorghums, and row crop budget outlooks. Speakers will include Dr. Randy Boman, Research Director and Cotton Extension Program Leader, Mr. Shane Osborne, Associate Extension Specialist – Cotton, Mr. Rick Kochenower, Area Research and Extension Specialist – Sorghum and Corn, Gary Strickland, Extension Educator, Agriculture, and Mr. Stan Bevers, Agriculture Economics Specialist, Texas Agri-Life.

Our Lunch Program (12 Noon – 1:15 p.m.) will address the “Farm Bill Status” and its applications to Southwest Oklahoma and the current outlook on “Agriculture Financial Loans and Regulations”. Speakers will include Dr. Jody Campiche, OSU Agriculture Farm Policy Specialist, Mr. Carl Josefy, Jackson County Farm Service Agency Director, and Mr. Jeff Greenlee, NBC-OK, Altus Branch President, Larry Daniels, Farm Service Agency Farm Loan Manager, and Raylon Shumaker, Ag Preference, ACA.

Session 2 (1:15 – 3 p.m.) will address “Canola and Wheat In-season Production and Management” topics. Speakers for this session will include Mr. Josh Bushong, Winter Canola Extension Specialist, Dr. Mark Gregory, Southwest District Agronomy Specialist, Dr. Brian Arnall, OSU Soil Fertility Specialist, and Gary Strickland, Extension Educator, Agriculture.

Finally Session 3 (3:10 – 4:30 p.m.) will address “Commodity Market discussions for Wheat, Canola, and Cattle”. This session will be directed by Dr. Kim Anderson, OSU Small Grains Marketing Specialist and Dr. Derrell Peel, OSU Livestock Marketing Specialist.

This should be an informative conference and all agriculture producers are invited to attend. A free sponsored lunch will also be served.
