Leadership from Ft. Sill and Altus AFB may unite on some missions between the two bases

The Altus Economic Development Corporation exists to promote activities and advertizing things that bring people to Altus. Their board of directors met for their regular meeting on Oct. 22, at noon in the Council Chambers.
Following the call to order and roll call, the board took comments from the public. Brad Duncan, representing girls’ fast-pitch softball spoke regarding the impact tournaments could have on Altus. Tournament play requires fields be up to certain specifications. When asked by Don Johnson if Altus fields are prepared now, Duncan said they were not. Mike Nettles said this may be a matter for various other committees or offices too. He said that Great Plains Parks and Recreation, the City of Altus and Altus City Council may be involved in various ways. Nettles asked for time to research the matter and that Duncan to come to the second meeting in November or the first meeting the December of the City Council.
Dr. Joe Leverett spoke regarding the Strategic Planning Committee coming to town. He said the leadership from Ft. Sill Post Commander and Altus AFB Wing Commander will be conversing on possibly uniting some missions between the two bases. Leverett said the EDC and consultants helped facilitate this action.
The minutes of Sept. 17, monthly payables/claims and the Finance and Treasurer’s report for Sept. were all approved.
A budget statement presentation for Sept.was made by Nettles and approved.
Approval was made to transfer $1,000 from Contract Services and $400 from Accounting and Audit to the Tourism and Conventions account to pay for a Main Street Altus ad in Oklahoma Today.
Issues concerning Quartz Montain Aerospace were discussed. (See side bar.)
The land acquistition and land swaps are closer to being completed. When the contracts are signed, and deeds recorded, the land that surrounds Altus Air Force Base will be safe from any encroachment. David Braddock, EDC Consultant gave specific details on those land purchases regarding the Thomas, Guisey and Dean properties.
There were no new business items or comments from the board.
