A big night is expected when the City League Football Championship game are held.

It will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, under the lights of Hightower Memorial Stadium. Three championship games are on the slate at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The Altus Fire and Rescue will cook hamburgers and hot dogs and there will be special appearances by the Altus High School Cheerleaders and the Altus High School Dance team.

It’s been a challenging year for the City of Altus Recreation Department. Earlier this several personnel from the department resigned their positions or opted to take early retirement. That left a shortage in the department but thanks to the efforts Craig Tocknell, City Clerk and recreation board member Debbie Davis; and employees Todd Glenn, Ben Darby and Teresa Jameson the football program carried on.

Some had their doubts and there was negative talk but Tocknell said there is a better way to look at it. “If there is one thing we can be positive about it’s the kids.”

“I’m so proud of our crew. We were told that it couldn’t be done, but we did it,” Jameson said. “We’re excited, we’re pumped up,” Jameson said. “We want the people to come out and see these kids.
