An Altus woman has reported that she was contacted by phone by a man claiming to be with Medicare, and got irate with her when she wouldn’t give him personal information including her social security number.

“The man said I needed to sign up for a second Medicare card,” said the woman. “When I wouldn’t give my personal information, he said he was going to cancel my current Medicare card and I wouldn’t have one at all if I didn’t cooperate with him. He got very mad.”

After the call, the woman contacted Medicare herself and was told there wasn’t any second card that needed to be obtained.

Call the toll free phone number for Medicare if you have any questions. It is 1-800-447-8477.
