FREDERICK – Marital problems are said to be what evidently led to a murder-suicide in Frederick Sunday.
According to reports, Laterria Miller, 35, was shot multiple times in the abdomen by her husband Deyone Miller, 41, with a 9 mm pistol. He then turned the weapon on himself, shooting himself one time in the head.
Frederick Police report getting a request for a welfare check at the couple’s home on South 13th Street just after 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The two were found dead in the bedroom of the home.
Police had been told that Deyone had called several family members and told them that he had shot his wife.
Police say that they the couple had been having domestic difficulties and that they had separated for a time. She had come back Saturday after being gone for about two weeks.
The couple had four children, ranging in age from 4 to 18.
“The children were not in the house at the time,” Assistant Chief Joel Neely said.
The children were at church at the time of the shooting, and are now staying with Laterria’s mother.
Neely said the couple were found lying in bed. Mr. Miller had apparently shot Mrs. Miller, then laid down beside her and shot himelf.
The state medical examiner and OSBI both did their investigation at the scene. They told police all evidence did point to a murder-suicide and the Frederick Police are currently in the process of this investigation.
