The Old Greer County Western Heritage Association, a 501(c)(3) based in Mangum, recently donated $1,000 to the Museum of the Western Prairie.
The Association, through sponsorships and a variety of annual fundraisers, collects money and redistributes funds in the form of donations to non-profit organizations in Greer, Jackson, southern Beckham, and Harmon counties. At the annual banquet on Nov. 9, the Association distributed $4,000 to five Old Greer County museums: the Harmon County Historical Museum, Hollis ($1,000); the Museum of the Western Prairie, Altus ($1,000); the Old Greer County Museum & Hall of Fame, Mangum ($1,000); the Roger Miller Museum, Erick ($500); and the 100th Meridian Museum, Erick ($500).
When informed of the donation, the Museum of the Western Prairie invited the Old Greer County Western Heritage Association to divide the gift, using $500 to become a sponsor of the museum's 2010 calendar project.
The calendar, a fundraiser developed by the museum's support group, the
Western Trail Historical Society (WTHS), will present the history of Old
Greer County. The Association agreed the sponsorship would be a natural
fit, and both MWP and WTHS appreciate the support!
