Jackson County Sheriff Roger Levick and sheriff’s deputies received a call at 4 a.m. Wednesday from Jackson County Memorial Hospital. When they arrived, they found Olustee Police Chief Victor Martinez covered in blood.

Martinez was the victim of an assault and battery that apparently stemmed from being at a party where alcohol was involved.

Martinez declined to press charges against the those who attacked him, but Levick said an investigation is still ongoing with information gathered to be submitted to the District Attorney’s office.

“The information is being compiled today and will be submitted soon,” Levick said this morning.
