Altus Police Department received a report of an injury accident in the 100 block of W. Broadway on Sunday, July 22, at 5:31 p.m. According to Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, an 11-year-old child rode her bicycle out into traffic across the eastbound lanes of W. Broadway. She rode between stopped vehicles in those lanes and then proceeded into the path of Consuelo Gloria. Gloria was driving a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, going south on Main Street and turning west onto Broadway. Despite the fact that Gloria was driving very slowly, she was unable to stop in time. The vehicle contacted the right front fork of the girl’s bike. According to Murphy, during the impact, Smith put out her hand and placed it on the hood of the car and then fell to the ground.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was called, but the injuries were found to be minor. Smith was turned over to her mother. Gloria was not cited. According to Murphy, Smith did not have the right-of-way, as she was not in either of the crosswalks provided for that block.
