Pioneers win two of three

The Western Oklahoma State College Pioneers split a doubleheader with Hutchinson, Kan. Community College on Saturday and came back Monday for an easy wins over Norther of Tonkawa.

Here’s how the games went.

Western 11, Tonkawa 2

The Pioneers pounded out 15 hits won in blowout fashion, 11-2 at Edmond.

The Pioneers scored five runs in the fourth on a two-run triple by Sherman Lacrus, an RBI single by Alnardo Rodriguez, and a two-run double by Sicnarf Loopstok.

Lacrus racked up two RBIs on two hits for Western Oklahoma St. Pioneers.

Aneuris Rodriguez pitched well for Western Oklahoma St. Pioneers. Aneuris Rodriguez held Tonkawa hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four.

Edward Cruz got the win for Western Oklahoma St. Pioneers. He allowed two runs over five innings. Cruz struck out four, walked three and gave up three hits.

Loopstock was three for five at the plate while Clemente Parra also had three hits four at bats.

Alnardo Rodriguez and Lacrus had two hits each.

Hutchinson 3, Western 2

Western led 2-0 but Hutchinson scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth.

Sherman Lacrus had an RBI double while Willie Allen was two for four at the plate.

Offense was hard to come by for both teams as a 35 mile per wind was blowing in the face of the batters.

Pioneers 2, Hutchinson 0

Kevin Torres and Joan (pronounced John) Pena combined for a three hitter. Torres threw four innings and Pena three innings and both struck out three.

Western scored its two runs in the fourth inning. Lacrus had a double in the inning.

Pioneer notes: Western, ranked second in the country, upped its season record to 19-4.

Western goes on the road for a doubleheader on Wednesday at Lubbock Christian. They will then travel to Roswell, N.M. for a twinbill with New Mexico Military Institute.
