Although they should have running water restored later today, nearby Frederick, as well as most of Tillman County and areas of Cotton County, have been without running water after a pipline burst on Sunday.
With most of the area covered in snow and ice from the Christmas blizzard, it has made finding and working on the break difficult. Crews with the City of Frederick, along with state inmates, spent Monday locating the break, and Tuesday working to replace the line that burst. A pond had to be drained to access the water main that needed repair.
Some Frederick and other area residents have had access to well water, but groups such as Altus’ Salvation Army has brought in bottled water and tanks of water to residents.
The Salvation Army in Altus delivered 22 pallets of bottled water to Frederick yesterday, Oklahoma emergency management sent in four 700-gallon tankers of water, a 6,000 gallon tanker full of non-potable water for the jail was brought in from Grandfield by the County Commissioners, and water for the hospital and nursing home was brought in by a city council member.
Reports this morning from Frederick were that the pipeline had been repaired, and that the water tower was being filled up. After testing, running water to those affected by the pipeline break should be restored later today.
