Two injured in Greer Co. accident
An accident in Greer County Friday evening resulted in two injuries.
At about 6:42 p.m. Friday, James Heatly, 62, of Willow, was westbound on State Highway 9 driving a 2001 Dodge 2500 pickup when he attempted to make a left turn onto County Road 1840 in front of a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis being driving by Mary Taylor, 82, of Vinson.
Taylor struck the passenger side of Heatly’s vehicle. She was pinned in her vehicle for about 30 minutes before being extricated by the Mangum Fire Department by use of the Jaws of Life.
Heatly was transported to the Mangum Community Hospital where he was treated and released. Taylor was transported by Air-Evac to the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with injuries to her arms and legs. She was listed in critical condition.
The cause of the accident was listed as an improper left turn in front of oncoming traffic.
Seatbelts were equipped but not in use in the Heatly vehicle, but were in the Taylor vehicle.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Trinity Simmons of the Jackson County Detachmet of Troop M, and was assisted by Troopers Justin Wheeler, Steve Pothorst, the Greer County Sheriff’s Department, Mangum Police, Dane Polk of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife, the Mangum Fire Department, Greer County EMS and Air-Evac.
