Winter canola field meetings to be held

Southwestern Oklahoma farmers interested in an alternate crop for winter wheat are invited to attend one or all winter canola field meetings Thursday in Tillman, Cotton and Caddo Counties.

The first field meeting will be 9 a.m. in Tillman County. To attend this field day, drive east of Frederick on Oklahoma State Highway 5 to the Tillman Vocational-Technical Center, then one mile east of the vo-tech center and one-half north.

At 1 p.m., another field day will be held in Cotton County, five miles south of the intersection of Highways 65 and 53,east of Walters, then west.

The last field meeting of the three will be held in Caddo County at 5:30 p.m., on Indian Road, south of Ft. Cobb, then 1 1/2 miles west.

Soil fertility, including sulfur, and grass control will be subjects covered by Oklahoma State University Extension specialists during the three field meetings, accordng to Gene Neuens, field representative for the Producers Cooperative Oil Mill, Oklahoma City.
