Your Altus Chamber of Commerce annually sponsors Farm City Week. This is the 35^th year for this important program. The purpose of this week is to highlight what agriculture means to our local economy, to inform everyone of the various agriculture crops grown and produced in Jackson County and southwest Oklahoma, to show the importance of agriculture to our way of life, and last but not least, to show appreciation to all those involved in farming, ranching and other agriculture pursuits. Agriculture is a multi-million dollar facet of our economy. The theme for Farm City Week is “Farming, Flying and Community – the Pillars of Southwest Oklahoma”.

The kick-off for Farm City Week will be a farmers appreciation luncheon and farm tours on Wednesday, Nov. 7. Cost is $10 for lunch and business people are encouraged to bring a farmer to the luncheon.. The luncheon will be held at Western Oklahoma State College in the multi-purpose room from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Approximately 140 people will go on the Farm Tours.

The morning and afternoon farm tours will begin at 8:05 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. The tour buses will travel to the Cotton Grower’s Gin , Robbins’ Farms, Lugert-Altus Irrigation District demonstration project, Gavilon, Altus Peanut Warehouse and tractor driving will be provided by Western Equipment and Livingston Machinery at the Rodeo grounds.

Parking for the Farm Tours will be in the Southwest corner of the South parking lot at the college.

Farm City Week Farmers Appreciation Luncheon at Western Oklahoma State College, Multi-Purpose Room - Buffet line opens at 11:30 a.m. Cost of the luncheon is $10. Please call the chamber office for your reservations. Think about inviting a farmer as your guest. The people who are on the farm tours will be joining us for the lunch.

The Farm City Week Banquet will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Altus High School Cafetorium. Tickets are $20. Please stop by the Chamber for your tickets. Entertainment will be provided by our hometown favorite, Ashley Wheeler. The winners of the Soil Conservation District Speech Contest will present their speeches sponsored by KEYB Radio. The KWHW Radio “Legends of Agriculture” award will be presented at the banquet by Eddie and Joan Wilcoxen. Master of Ceremonies is Maurice King. Ambassadors will serve as hosts and greeters!

Colonel Tony Krawietz, Commander of the 97^th Air Mobility Wing, Altus Air Force Base, is also hosting an Air Refueling Flight for Farm City Week on Nov. 8. We will need full legal name, date of birth and social security number for those interested in going on the flight. Those attending will gather at 7 a.m. at the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road and ride to Altus AFB by bus. There are only have 60 slots for this event .
