The Frederick Chamber is gearing up for it’s sixth annual Cotton Festival to be held on Saturday, Nov. 3. There is a great deal going on that day, so head to Frederick that day for a great time.
Cotton Pick’n Chili Cook Off: This year there will be cash prizes of over $600 to be awarded. There is a $30 entry fee, and chili may be of any type and cooked on site or at home. The Chamber will provide crackers, sample cups, bowls, spoons, and napkins, and ticket containers (for voting). Chili Teams are asked to be ready to start serving at 11 a.m., and stay until at least 1 p.m. Any groups, organizations, churches or individuals are welcome to enter. Tickets to taste the chili will be available that day, tickets are only $5, which will allow you to sample each team’s chili and then have a bowl of your choice! Other food available will include cotton candy, homemade pie, corn dogs, and other treats.
Vendors: Applications from non-food vendors are still being taken. Vendor spaces are $25, any type of non-food items may be sold. There will be a variety of vendors to shop from.
Free Tours: There will be tours to Red River Cotton Gin, weather permitting. The tours are free, and transportation will be provided.
Cotton and Agricultural: Come learn all about 1920s and modern cotton farming. Activities will include: Cotton crafts, cotton spinning and weaving, cotton displays, Farm Equipment, and Tractor and educational displays. This is in conjunction with the Pioneer Townsite Museum’s ”Seed to Sew” program. The”Seed to Sew” Program covers cotton picking, ginning, carding, spinning, weaving and sewing. It also features exhibitions of cotton farming from the early 20th century, including a mini-cotton gin.
Entertainment: Beginning at 11 a.m., Wichita Mountain Bluegrass, a great bluegrass band from Mountain Park, is back to entertain with their wonderful music! Other local entertainment is planned.
Then beginning at 1 p.m. will be the Little Miss Cotton Boll and Maid of Cotton Pageants. These young girls will entertain us and show off their cotton outfits.
