It went down to the wire but a last second shot rimmed off and the Altus High Lady Bulldogs suffered a heart breaking 47-46 loss at the hands of Elk City, here on Tuesday night.

With the exception of two brief moments,Altus trailed for most of the last three quarters of the game. The Lady Bulldogs biggest deficit crested at seven points but they rallied did get an opportunity to win it at the end. Tisay Woodhouse hit a free throw with 20 seconds left the Altus led 46-45. Elk City then turned the ball over with 14 seconds and Altus looked to be in good shape. But facing full court pressure the lady Bulldogs turned the ball over. After a steal Elk City’s April Clinton hit a shot with eight seconds to give the Elkettes the lead. Altus High Head Coach David Prickett immediately time out to plot strategy.

With seven seconds left Itiya Knight in bounds the pass with seven seconds left. The Lady Bulldogs hurried the ball down the court and ball fell in the hands Woodhouse who rushed a shot at the buzzer that rimmed off.

It was case of too many turnovers, poor shooting and the inability to come up with a rebound on the defensive end.

“They threw a lot of stuff at us,” Prickett said. “We had silly fouls that put two starters on the bench. Too many turnovers, we gave them too many offensive rebounds. Our inexperience really showed. But they played hard, we’ll get better.”

It was a good game for Knight who led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points. Despite spending much of the game on the bench because of foul troubled, Woodhouse scored 10 points.

Notes: Altus was to have played Anadarko, the top ranked team in Class 4A here on Friday night. But the Warriors football team is playing in the State Class 4A Championship game on Friday. The game has been postponed to Dec. 17.
