Sayre, Hollis, Snyder, Mangum win in Tri County

Hollis, Sayre, Snyder and Mangum were first round winners in the Tri-County Basketball Tournament Tuesday night at the Western Oklahoma State College gym.

Mangum 51, Navajo 41

Girls

It was a close game but Navajo did not score the 5:49 seconds of the contest and they lost to Lady Tigers 51-41.

Navajo’s Katelynn Shumaker fouled out with 5:49 left. She had 21 points at the time and when she left the Lady Indians had a three point lead.

Mangum then took the game over scoring the final 13 points of the game.

Shumaker led all scorers. Nicole Howard led Mangum with 16 points while McKenzie Laughlin finished with 15 points.

Sayre 47, Hollis 17

Girls

Sayre took control early and never looked back.

Kassy Easter led the Lady Eagles with 14 points. Hollis was paced by Mercedes Dickson’s seven points.

Hollis 80, Granite 19

Boys

Top seeded Hollis took care of business. The Tigers led 17-2 at the end of the first period and kept adding to their lead.

Jordan Campbell led all scorers with 15 points. Holden Gollihare and Kahlil Johnson both had 10 points.

Cal Murray paced the Panters with nine points.

Snyder 58, Sayre 47

Boys

It was the Jagger Jones show. Jones scored 33 points to lead the Cyclones to victory.

It 38-38 at the end of three periods but Snyder out scored the Eagles 20-9 in the final eight minutes.

The Cyclones grabbed the lead and turned to the free throw line to protect. They hit 11 of 14 free throws down the stretch. Jones made nine of 10 charity tosses down the stretch.

Taylor Varnell scored 12 points to lead Sayre.
