Tipton wins state title

WEATHERFORD - Tipton rallied with three second half touchdowns to defeat Forgan 30-12 to wim tje Class C State Championship Saturday at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Titpon (14-0) trailed 12-6 at halftime.

The Tigers took the lead for good when Josh Torres scored from 1 yard out. Bryant Flores added the conversion points and Coach Jim Kerbo’s Tigers led 14-12.

It was tight game until late in the game. Tipton scored two touchdowns in the final five minutes to break the game open. Flores rambled 80 yards for a touchdown and Torres scampered 39 yards for the final score of the game.

It was a superb performance by the Tipton defense who held Forgan to 28 yards in the second half.

Torres had 120 yards on 25 carries. Flores finished with 103 yards on six carries.

It was the third state title in the school’s history. Tipton took the crown in 1952 and Kerbo guided the Tigers to the state title in 1997.
