Altus Police received a call shortly after noon Thursday from a woman who said that her husband had kidnapped her child.

Officers were told that the man had taken her child to California, then left her a voice mail saying that he was going to kill her, himself, and the baby.

Police Chief Tim Murphy said that the custody battle incident began when the couple moved from California to Altus. The husband was said to be unhappy here, and took their child to California for the Thanksgiving break, and then decided to stay there.

“This is a civil matter,” said Murphy. “The wife was instructed to contact the welfare agency in California where the husband is to have them check on the child.”
