Jackson County Commissioners on Thursday approved the replacement of a “fractured critical” bridge just outside of Duke. District 3 Commissioner Cary Carrell said the existing bridge is not a hazard, but is a “top priority.”
The bridge that crosses over Turkey Creek is to be removed and rebuilt, as part of the Cross Town Steel Beams project to eliminate “structurally deficient” bridges. Carrell explained that the current design resulted in a fatal bridge collapse in Missouri a few years back. The bridge is located 1.3 miles east and .7 miles south of Duke on Hwy 34.
During their regular end-of-the-month meeting, Commissioners also went over items on their agenda.
There were no officer reports. Blanket purchase orders for the County Commissioners’ Highway Department, County Clerk, and Sheriff’s Department were approved, as well as appropriations for the month of Feb.
Commissioners also approved a notification of repayment to Contract Prisoners Fund and Sheriff’s Service Fees accounts from a 2012 temporary transfer of funds. They also approved a memorandum of agreement between Cathleen A. Jones of 4J Farm & Ranch, L.L.C., and the Board of County Commissioners, granting permission to enter property to clean out a natural waterway to prevent erosion and help drainage of county road and bridge.
There was no new business or claims for approval. The meeting adjourned.
