Hospital designated with Pink Ribbon Facility award

Jackson County Memorial Hospital Women’s Imaging is designated a Pink Ribbon Facility for excellence in breast health and “in recognition for exceptional commitment and support of the women of the community.” The award followed the addition of the Hologic Selenia Dimension 2D® Digital Mammography System in August 2010.

JCMH Women’s Imaging is located at 101 South Park Lane in Altus and offers an American College of Radiology (ACR) accredited and Food and Drug Administration certified facility with two American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) mammographers who provide over 30 combined years of breast health care.

Mammograms remain the best method of early detection for breast cancer. It is one of the most important medical tests a woman can have.

Connie Sisk, R.T. (R)(M), Lead Mammographer at JCMH Breast Imaging Center states, “I want the women of Jackson County and the surrounding area to know what a privilege it is to offer the Hologic Selenia Dimension 2D® system. It is a state of the art diagnostic tool for breast cancer that has a greater power to detect subtle breast tissue changes and enhances the ability to detect breast cancer early. It offers superior image quality.” Sisk continues, “Mammograms are no longer as uncomfortable as they were for some patients for many years. We are very proud of our beautiful facility that offers friendly, convenient check-in and little wait period.”

Preparing for a mammogram includes providing the physician with as much information as possible about your breast health. This should include the results of any previous mammograms as well as family medical and breast history. Women should also inform the mammographers and physician of any previous surgeries and history of hormone use. If women are still menstruating, a mammogram should be scheduled about 10 days after the start of the woman’s cycle.

Having previous mammogram films available for the radiologist to compare with the new exam can prevent women from having to return for additional testing.

Sisk explains, “Breast tissue goes through changes continually due to age and hormones and the chances of breast cancer increase with age so mammograms become more important every year.” Sisk also stated that most insurance policies cover the cost of an annual screening mammogram.

The Jackson County Memorial Hospital Breast Imaging Center is located at 101 South Park Lane in Altus. Women age 40 and over can schedule their own screening mammogram. To learn about mammograms and breast health call 379-5100.

Once again the NCAA botched it
I have to laugh at the NCAA simply because they are so comical in their decision making. This will not be the first time I have criticized the NCAA for some of the decisions they have made in the past and certainly won’t be the last. And by the way I’m not the only one that taking that stand wit...
