The Certified Healthy Oklahoma is a combined effort of the Oklahoma Academy for State Goals, the Oklahoma Turning Point Council and the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

Mary Fallin, Governor of Oklahoma, was a key speaker who praised the 900-plus attendees for recognizing the need for changes in lifestyles and habits and to be the catalyst for healthier outcomes for all Oklahomans.

There are three levels of recognition: Basic, Merit and Excellence. Receiving Certifications of Excellence from Jackson County were: KEYB Radio, Jackson County Health Department, Western Oklahoma State College, Altus High School, Altus Intermediate School, Altus Junior High School, L. Mendel Rivers Elementary School, Roosevelt Elementary School, Sunset Elementary School, Washington Elementary School, and Will Rogers Elementary School.

Receiving Certifications of Merit from Jackson County were: Altus Air Force Base, Altus Chamber of Commerce, Altus Public Schools Administrative Center, Duke Public Schools, Jackson County Memorial Hospital and The City of Blair.

Basic Certifications were awarded to Bits and Spurs Company of Blair and the Integris Family Care of Altus.

Applications for the Certified Healthy Oklahoma in the individual categories were submitted in November of 2012. For more information on how your community, campus, restaurant, business, or school can apply contact Tara Davis or Tonya Pogue at 482-7308.
