Some power lines were knocked to the ground by an accident yesterday morning, July 26, on the corner of Bulldog Lane and N. Park Lane. Two calls came into Altus Police Department at 5:17 and 7:07 a.m. regarding the downed lines, which were sparking. At 7:08 a.m. Altus Fire Department sent Engine 44 to put out a small fire just east of the High School. Altus Power and CableOne trucks spent most of the day at the scene. A new power pole replaced the damaged one.
According to Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, this damage appears to have been caused by a hit and run accident and is still under investigation.
